CHICAGO — Today, the Civic Federation released the following statement regarding the FY27 State Budget and end of the Illinois spring legislative session.
“Illinois has once again settled for a budget that relies on new taxes and interfund transfers rather than adopting the meaningful structural reforms needed to ensure fiscal stability. While the decision to defer action on the megaproject proposal was prudent, for legislation of such significance, there was a troubling lack of legislative coordination and transparency. Because of the long-term significance of the issue, strong consideration should be given to a special session to provide more public-facing information, evaluation, and debate. That same commitment to long-term planning must be applied to the State’s broader fiscal outlook. In the coming months, the Civic Federation will provide analysis and recommendations to support more meaningful and informed conversation ahead of the fall veto session.”
