FY2024 Illinois Federal Grants Dashboard

September 09, 2025

As the role of the federal government in funding state and local governments has shifted rapidly, it has become important to understand what federal funding looks like on a state-level basis. This dashboard provides detailed information on all federal grant funding the flowed to Illinois in the 2024 state fiscal year, including grant funding for the state government, local governments, nonprofits and higher education institutions. This information may act as a baseline understanding of federal support to Illinois, to measure against changes in the coming months.

The data for this dashboard was drawn from usaspending.gov.

The dashboard includes two viewing options: one including Medicaid grants and one excluding Medicaid grants. Medicaid funding to the State of Illinois totals about $20 billion and because it is so large compared to all other federal grants directed to Illinois, it dwarfs all other grants. Both views do not include other types of federal funding such as direct transfers (e.g., Social Security, SNAP) or contracts.
